Does anyone know: When did the state of Florida build Route 75, on the west coast, to in effect replace rt 41?
As a “new” Floridian, I see all the strip hotels on rt 41 [the Tamiani Trail] that look like they were built in the 40′s or 50′s and wonder when that route became “obsolete” for most travelers now using rt 75….since the Tamiani Trail runs very close to the west coast it still has some value for visitors, but rt 75 is abot 10 miles inland and people are able to zip past Bradenton/Sarasota/Venice and other destinations without ever seeing water….thanks to anyone who can shed a light on this.
tamiami trail is a highway that runs (what do ya know) from tampa to miami, 75 is an interstate…i dont think one was built to replace another…its common to have interstates and highways that lead the same direction. the highway is convenient when driving around in town or to places nearby as it is the main road through most towns in the area. 75 is more convenient when traveling to a town outside of your own that way you dont have to deal with stop lights and slow traffic and speed limits.

Clean, cheap hotel near Santa Monica Beach Pier, CA?
I have searched through maps, hotel reviews, and even tried to Priceline (failed to accept) a descent hotel within 3-5 miles of the Santa Monica Pier or even Venice Beach. I have had no luck!!!
My budget is $70 a night. I need a clean room in a safe area. I would like to be able to drive to the beach in less than 10 minutes. I don’t need plush down comforters or flat screen t.v.’s. Just a room clean enough for my family for 2 nights, (June 16 check in) and (June 18 check out).
Does anyone have a personal experience that could help suggest a hotel?
Okay forget Santa Monica! What family beach would you suggest that would be safe and offer lower hotel rates? I’m flying out of LAX so please keep that in mind.
How about this one:
1, Pacific Sands Motel Santa Monica – USD79
1515 Ocean Avenue – 0.3 km to Santa Monica Pier
2, Days Inn Los Angeles Santa Monica -USD93
3007 Santa Monica Boulevard – 3.7 km to Santa Monica Pier
3, Ocean Park Hotel Santa Monica -USD45
2680 32Nd Street – - 4 km to Santa Monica Pier

What is the best way to get from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Hotel Centauro?
Any advice in how to save some money on transportation? Me and my wife will be arriving about 9:00pm in winter. The Hotel Address is “San Marco Campo Daniele Manin 4297/a”
Well, the hotel’s website suggests the following:
To reach the Centauro Hotel from the “Marco Polo” airport of Venice there are several options:
- by the “Alilaguna” motorboat (fare: 10 euro) which will bring you to St. Mark’s in about 1 hour (get off at the Vallaresso stop). From there, walk down Calle Vallaresso (in front of the landing stage) and the Frezzerie, until you reach the intersection with Calle dei Fuseri. Turn into Calle dei Fuseri and go straight on until the intersection with Calle della Vida or delle Locande: The Centauro Hotel is at number 4297/A.
- by the “Venezia Air Terminal” bus, which will take you to Piazzale Roma in about 20 minutes. From there you can take vaporetto n° 1 or n° 82 as far as the Rialto stop. When you get to the Rialto, walk down Riva del Carbone until the intersection with Calle Cavalli on the left. Go down this to the end, where you will find Campo Manin. The Centauro Hotel is in Calle della Vida or delle Locande, where the famous Scala Contarini del Bovolo is located.
- by private water tax you can get to just a few meters from the Hotel.
